Today in History

The second Atomic Bomb was dropped on Nagasaki Japan on this date in 1945. Death tolls are estimated to be more than 80,000. This second bombing with atomic devices convinces Japan that continuing the war was futile and thus capitulated.

Also on this date in 1974 Richard M. Nixon left the White House aboard Marine 1 to Andrews Air Force Base for a final ride home aboard Air Force 1. Nixon is the only U.S. President ever to resign the office. Later that same day Gerald Ford was sworn in as our 38th President.
