Salisbury Fire Department,135 years of Service

The Salisbury Fire Dept held a banquet tonight at the Wicomico County Civic Center for it’s 135th anniversary. Many special people were in attendance including a long time friend of the Department Mr. Robert Cannon. Mr. Cannon has responded to the departments needs over the years more times than I care to remember. He knows most of the members by name and always has a smile and good word for everyone. I don’t think Mr. Cannon drives anymore so I am sure he is not the frequent visitor to the station he used be, but his presence at department functions is most welcome.

Another great guest this evening was Emerson Carlisle Philips. Known to many of us simply has “Corky”. I am not exactly sure how long Corky has been with the department but it very close, and may exceed 60 years. Corky was recognized for his service tonight and received a standing ovation upon receiving a beautiful fire bell trophy. I would like to also say Corky faithfully served in the military and was very active with the VFW before his health started to decline a few years ago. Corky is also a member the Wicomico Lodge # 91 A.F. & A.M., one of the Masonic Lodges in Salisbury.

Thanks Corky for all your years of faithful service.

Guest speaker for the evening was Past Chief Larry Patin of the Huntingtown Vol. Fire & Rescue Squad. Chief Patin gave a short but inspirational talk of what takes to be a fire fighter today. Thank you Chief Patin.
