Looking for some great family entertainment? It’s that time of year for the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim PA. , and the Maryland Renaissance Festival, in Crownsville MD.
I have been to both of these venues and I must say they are equally entertaining. From Salisbury the Maryland festival is an easy day trip and I promise you it is worthwhile. The Faire in Pennsylvania can be done in a day but believe me it would a loooong day. Plan for an overnighter at least. The food will be phenomenal. The shops, plays, displays, actors and shows will make your trip most memorable. Be sure to take a camera and/or a video recorder. Below are the dates for each. Want to know more? Absolutely wench! The Faire is held on the grounds of the Mt. Hope Winery and a retail outlet for their wares is just outside the gates of the Shire.
I have been to both of these Faires and can vouch for them also. A great day (or more) of entertainment for the whole family. There is more to see and do than can be done in one day. You will have to pick and choose what you want to see and do. If you want to really get into the spirit, dress for the Faire. Both Faires rent costumes just inside the gate for an economical way to dress the part or you can purchase costumes for men, women and children of all ages at the Faire. Be prepared, they are not inexpensive, but they are so beautiful!! Or, you could make your own if handy with a sewing machine. I have 4 costumes, 1 purchased and 3 taylor made. I have made about 10 costumes total. there is also plenty of good food available, some familiar and some really different. Smoked turkey legs seems to be a real favorite as well as soup in bread bowls. Well worth the trip to either or both.
I've never attended the Ren Faire but will be doing so this year. It's good to see your favorable recommendation Soapy.
