Today in 1909 the first race at Indianapolis took place. The top speed for the day was 57.4 MPH. The primitive road surface was to blame for the deaths of two drivers, two mechanics, and two spectators. None the less, the annual race continues today known as the Indianapolis 500.
Also on this day in 1934 Adolf Hitler was elected first president of Germany. A milestone in the biography of the most evil monster in modern history.
